The "X-Factor" in the X-Step

It's understood in disc golf mechanics that you want to have an "X-step" in your backhand. Meaning, you want your legs to cross each other as part of the overall chain of footwork movement leading up to the throw.
But here's something to consider: Sometimes we pay too much attention to deliberately X-stepping in our run-up. And the result can be a clunky, uncoordinated throw.
The reason for the X-step is to ensure that we rotate at the hips. But, realistically, it's the rotation that really drives the throw.
Footwork is important. But if you find yourself in a rut, or struggling with your backhand, consider focusing on rotation in order to find your groove.
