City Park Disc Golf

I live in New York City, so I can't always get out to a disc golf course. But last weekend, my friend Scott was in town. So we went out to Riverside Park early on a Saturday morning to throw some discs.
We had planned to do some practice throws across the field. But it was 9 am, with cloudy, cool weather. There was no one else in the entire park. So we decided to play some "holes" instead.
We didn't have baskets. But we picked certain trees to be our targets. Example: That cedar tree 210 feet away is a par-three. Throw a drive out to the tree, then try to hit it with a putt.
We played nine holes or so. It was great fun.
The point is-- we played disc golf in the middle of New York City. Nothing too challenging, but a lot of fun.
Essentially, we putted at the trees that we picked as holes. And putting at a tree can be harder than a basket. The tree might only be eight inches wide-- that's a narrow target to hit.
Overall, it reminded me that disc golf can be played anywhere. It's a portable, fun game. And a wide open city park can be a great place to play, when no one else is there. Just grab two or three discs and head out.
I'm all for playing disc golf in unusual settings. And since disc golf keeps growing in popularity, we may see more of this. In particular, check out the Urban Disc Golf channel on YouTube.
