Chris Dickerson's Field Ace in the Rain

Rain swallowed up much of the final round of the recent Kansas City Wide Open. In fact, the final day’s MPO competition was shortened to only nine holes.
It’s tough to play in the rain. The footing is muddy and slippery. And it’s nearly impossible to throw a forehand. That’s because, no matter how much you try to towel off a disc, it just won’t get dry enough—or stay dry. The disc will inevitably slip out of your hand during a throw.
Backhands can be tough in the rain, too. But at least you can try to hold on tight to the disc—and throw a somewhat workable shot.
Amidst the heavy rain and puddles on the final day at the KC Wide Open, however, Chris Dickerson managed to record an eagle on the par-4 575-foot first hole.
Dickerson's drive off the tee seemed to slip a bit. It sliced far off to the left. But his disc caught some trees and dropped to the ground, landing in a deep puddle.
From there, Dickerson faced a sloppy, windy, rain-drenched second shot to the green.
Amazingly, though, Dickerson threw a long, high backhand that faded nicely at the end and went straight into the basket.
It was an improbable—and impressive—field ace. You can actually see Dickerson lining up his second shot while trying to avoid standing in a deep puddle of muddy rain water.
Sometimes, it’s fun to just get out and play in the rain. But it’s tough to throw good shots. Congrats to Dickerson for plugging along and throwing a great shot in adverse conditions.
